Pyaterochka hit by hepatitis outbreak
25 of 114 Pyaterochka retail chain stores in Saint Petersburg were closed for disinfection on May 02. The decision was made after 50 employees had applied to health care professionals, complaining about bad health. Medical officers claimed their symptoms to be very similar to those of infectious hepatitis. The disease outbreak might have been caused by corporate catering, they assumed.
May 02 was the public holiday in Russia, so the chain experienced heavy losses, Pyaterochka’s representative said to the Delovoi Petersburg newspaper. According to Russian Consumption Control office epidemiologic department head Oleg Parkov, no cases of hepatitis infection were registered among Pyaterochka’s consumers up to the date.
