Norma to launch stores in Saint Petersburg
Corporate Profile Norma group was established in 1995 in Perm. At present it operates 30 supermarkets under Vivat brand and 35 NormaN wine shops. Corporate turnover is not disclosed.
Regional Profile Saint Petersburg is the second largest city and one of the few Russian ports on Baltic sea. The population of the city amounts to 4.6 mln. Retail turnover in 2004 totaled RUR 213 bln ($7.3 bln).
Competitive profile Wine shop market of Saint Petersburg is considered to be relatively vacant but controlled by criminal groups. At present the main players are small chains of 5-7 outlets that belong to the leading distribution market participants. Vinnicom, PKV-Neva and Svarog as well as the only Monopole boutique are among the noticeable ones.
Perm retail group Norma has recently launched two wine shops in Saint Petersburg under NormaN brand. According to corporate CEO Vadim Yusupov, the group is planning to open two dozens of outlets in 2005 introducing 2 or 3 shops every month.
So Norma has become the first retailer from Perm to expand its business to another region. Experts consider the first step to be potentially a success. The wine shop market seems to be rather empty. Norma marketing specialists add that Saint Petersburg local authorities are rumored to be more liable for efficient cooperation than those in other regions.
Norman-Neva LLC that is to manage the new local chain is already known in the city as Norma was the partner of many suppliers from Saint Petersburg. First NormaN was launched in the second decade of December. Norma investment programme in Saint Petersburg for 2005 was announced as $300,000-$500,000. The floor space of an average NormaN will amount to 100-150 square meters. The choice will total 1500-2000 items.
