Alliance Unichem enters Russian pharmasceutical market

Alliance UniChem has reached an agreement to enter the Russian pharmaceutical wholesale market through the acquisition of 96% of AP Apteka Holding Ltd for Ј28m. Apteka is the fifth largest pharmaceutical wholesaler in Russia with a network of 20 depots across the country. It reported audited sales of Ј115m for the year ending 31 March 2005 and since 2001 has grown its sales at an annual compound rate of over 40%, making it one of the fastest growing companies in the industry in Russia over the past five years.
