Auchan and Lidl sign contracts with Russian private label suppliers

Two foreign retail chains Auchan and Lidl will soon get private labels produced in Russia. PomidorProm holding has informed that it will make achar and ketchup under Economichniy Product brand especially for Auchan Russian subdivision. The corresponding agreement was signed on March 30. PomidorProm is already producing goods under private labels for Pyaterochka discounter chain and Metro Cash&Carry Russian subsidiary.

While PomidorProm will supply Auchan in Russia only, another Russian food producer Alterwest will produce ice-cream under private labels for the German Lidl chain which is not even present in Russia, Business newspaper reports. This is also the first time that Russian producer enters European market as a private label supplier. According to Alterwest president Victor Lutovinov, the chain will make ice-cream under the Lidl’s brand. Besides, it will sell its own ice-cream brands in several other German chains. According to some sources, Alterwest’s production is to appear in Lidl stores in April 2005.
