Mir to launch 15 hypermarkets in 2005, increase turnover to $450 mln
Mir electronics and home appliances chain has announced plans to launch 15 hypermarkets in 2005 and increase its turnover to $450 mln. The first store is to open in St.Petersburg on Leninsky Prospect. It will be situated in the chain’s own premises and will share the building with Sportmaster sportswear store. Hypermarket will occupy 3 stories and have the floor space of 2,400 sq. metres. Assortment of the store will exceed 10,000 items. Investments into the hypermarket totaled $4.5 mln.
Hypermarket in Novosibirsk launched on February 11 is situated in Festival shopping centre in Karla Marksa Sq. Its floor space is 1,700 sq. m., the choice totals 10,000 items. The company invested into the store $700,000. This is the second Mir store in Novosibirsk. The first one was launched a year ago and has already managed to get 10 per cent of the local electronics market. By launching the second shop the company plans to increase its market share in the city to 15-20 per cent.
Mir’s turnover in 2004 totaled $300 mln, 50 per cent up from 2003. During this period the company has launched 8 hypermarkets, including 4 stores in such new for the chain towns as Perm and Samara.
