The French hypermarket chain Auchan is negotiating construction of its hypermarket in the Moscow centre, Vedomosti newspaper has learned. The store will be situated in the new shopping and entertainment centre that is to be constructed on the territory of Pervy Khladokombinat (Cold store facility) on Verkhniaya Krasnoselskaya St. near Krasnoselskaya metro station and the Third Transport Ring. Total area of the centre that is scheduled to be ready by the beginning of 2007 will reach 118,000 sq. meters. Investor of the project ELM Stroy plans to spend $100-$130 mln on the construction of the centre.
According to the ELM chairman Vladimir Mazur, ELM Story was established in 2004 especially for the construction of the centre. The founders of the firm are from Canada and own more than 1,000,000 sq. meters on commercial real estate in North America and Kazakhstan. ELM Stroy has already launched several projects in a number of Russian regions and is now negotiating 2-3 sites in Moscow.
The sources in ELM Stroy informed Vedomosti that Auchan is one of the main candidates for the lease of the centre’s facilities for hypermarket and the chances that agreement with the French chain will be signed are about 90 per cent. Auchan officials in Russia did not deny the fact of negotiations, but refused to elaborate.
