Woolworths to sell everything in stores

UK-based variety retailer Woolworths is selling all its shop fixtures and fittings in frantic bid to raise cash. Administrators want to squeeze every last pound out of the 800 stores nationwide. A memo to staff at branches across the UK tells them to sell not only the last remaining items on the shelves but also equipment used by staff, reports The Mirror. A price list has been sent to managers, who have been told to photograph the items to put up around stores. Bosses have even launched a bonus scheme to encourage staff to shift the fixtures and fittings. "The incentive is very, very simple," says an internal memo seen by the Mirror. "The more you sell, the more you earn." The stores are due to close by 5 January with the loss of 27,000 jobs.
