Metro Group opens its first Metro cash & carry store in Kazakhstan

Metro Group is further pursuing its international expansion strategy by opening its first Metro cash & carry store in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. If all pre-conditions are fulfilled, such as securing land and obtaining necessary licences, Metro sees the potential for 10-15 cash & carry stores in Kazakhstan. On average, Metro Group will invest approximately EUR15-20 million (USD23.4-31.1 million) per store. The market entry was originally planned for summer 2009 but was then postponed to autumn 2009. Metro Group is the first cash & carry chain to open in Kazakhstan.
