Tesco, Waitrose and Baugur Iceland express interest in M&S stores

More than half of the UK-based Marks & Spencer stores put up for sale last month have attracted bidders with interest from rivals Tesco, Iceland and Waitrose, the local press has reported. The supermarket chains are all expanding their convenience store offering on the high street. Real Estate Agents CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) is handling the sale of 25 Simply Food outlets and two M&S general stores has said interest has been surprising considering the current slump in retail real estate especially considering that 500-800 Woolworths stores have failed to find buyers more than three months after the chain went bust. CBRE Director Ciaran Bird said the “fantastic condition” of the Simply Food stores meant that the sale process had moved quickly.
