Rewe Glockenbrot Bäckerei to acquire Rothermel

Rewe-owned bakery Glockenbrot Bäckerei is to acquire its competitor Rothermel with effect from 1 February in Germany. Rothermel was founded in 1887 and recorded sales of EUR16 million (USD23.41 million) in 2008, running 72 stores. Glockenbrot has a turnover of approximately EUR150 million (USD219 million) and supplies around 1,100 Rewe supermarkets, as well as Penny discounters and Toom hypermarkets, and operates some 520 own bakeries. www.planetretail.net
