McDonald’s Russia faces lawsuit from consumer watchdog

Fast food chain McDonald’s in Russia is facing a lawsuit from The Consumer Rights Protection Society, asking it to disclose the ingredients it uses, according to local press. The association ran an investigation into the operator and says it is misleading consumers by not providing necessary nutritional information. It was claimed, for example, that McDonald’s milkshakes should not be classified as such because they contain excessive amounts of fat. The watchdog also highlighted that McDonald’s is already in a privileged position after an arbitration court ruled that it be classified as a food retailer rather than a restaurant, allowing it to pay lower taxes.
