Ahold's ICA, the largest retailer in Sweden, has cut prices on approximately 2,000 groceries. The new price campaign will result in between 200 – 1,000 lower prices per store with a price cut of between 2% and 10% depending on size and selection in each store. The affected items will primarily be every-day household goods, including both private labels and branded items. The motivation behind the new price campaign is to counter the effects of the recession on the Swedish currency, which have meant an increase in retail prices on imported goods. The price cuts have been made possible by cutting costs in the ICA Group and in the individual stores. With the new price campaign ICA follows the trend towards more discounted items in order to attract the households that have been affected by the current crisis.
