Tesco to penalise staff who failed to show during snowy weather

UK retailer Tesco plans to penalise staff who failed to turn up during the snowy weather last week, the local press has reported. The company has told its 280,000 workers they could be docked pay or lose holiday for taking unscheduled time off. More than 30 centimetres of snow fell last week cutting off remote areas, with large parts of the transport network also paralysed. A spokesman for Tesco said: “Staff who missed work due to the weather have been asked to make the time back and have been given a number of ways that they can do this.” Unions have condemned the action, a spokesperson for the GMB Union said the firm could face a legal challenge against the move.
