Starbucks begins layoffs to close outlets

US coffee chain Starbucks notified 1,370 workers that their jobs would be eliminated as part of the company’s drive to cut 6,000 jobs. In order to reduce its costs, 500 office-level employees in the US and Canada were let go and 870 assistant store managers were told their jobs are being eliminated. Starbucks is in the process of closing an additional 300 units, 200 of which in the US.
