McDonald’s to expand in 2009

McDonald’s is planning to open over 30 restaurants in Russia in 2009. According to McDonald’s Russia Public Relations Director Svetlana Polyakova, around half will be in Moscow and St Petersburg. She added that the company had not seen any slowdown in sales and so would continue its development plans. In 2008, the company opened 22 restaurants in Russia. The expansion in Russia is part of McDonald’s wider plans to add around 1000 new restaurants worldwide, including 165 in the US, over 200 in Europe and approximately 600 in Asia. The company will invest USD2.1 billion in the new openings and remodelling of existing locations during the year.
