COOP(CH) positive outlook for 2009

The CEO of Swiss retailer COOP(CH), Hansueli Loosli, is positive about the company’s performance in 2009. Loosli stated that food sales for December this year were significantly higher than those reported for 2007. The Swiss retailer expects the company to grow by between 2% and 3% over 2009 although Loosli admitted that it is difficult to make a prediction for the year considering the uncertain economic outlook. However, the group stated that it is unlikely to reduce its staff over the year as the retailer will instead look to economise on energy and transport costs.
