Wal-Mart's Seiyu to consider M&A deals with other domestic retailers

Wal-Mart-owned Japanese retailer Seiyu will consider mergers and acquisitions with other Japanese retailers, the local press has reported the operator's CEO Edward Kolodzieski as saying. Wal-Mart has previously sought M&A deals, including attempting a tie-up with supermarket operator Daiei, however its ambitions have not been realised due to Seiyu’s results. However Kolodzieski anticipates retailers becoming more receptive to joining forces with Seiyu. He suggests that likely M&A contenders include midsize regional supermarkets.
