Euroset signs agreement with MTS to boost subscribers

Russian mobile phone retailer Euroset plans to sign a partnership agreement with MTS. The companies have agreed that Euroset will sell 7.2 million MTS subscriber contracts over the next 18 months, for USD172.8 million. In September 2008, when the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) granted VimpelCom approval to buy 49.9% of Euroset, it stipulated that the retailer must not discriminate against other operators. A source at Euroset revealed that VimpelCom contracts now account for around 60% of all contracts sold through Euroset stores, while MTS contracts are somewhere around 20%. The dealer agreement with MTS could bring this proportion up to more than 35%.
