Aldi officially opens 1,000th store in US

Aldi has officially opened its new store in West Haven, Connecticut, to mark the 1,000th location in its US portfolio. The discounter opened its first Connecticut store in 1997 and plans to open around six additional stores in the state in 2009, up 50% from the current 12 outlets. The new West Haven store is scheduled to open on Monday, 23 March. Nationwide, Aldi is on pace to open more than 80 stores in 2009, the company said.
