Wal-Mart names new Executive Vice President and General Counsel

US retailer Wal-Mart has announced the promotion of Jeff Gearhart to Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He will oversee the legal department, which is responsible for handling all legal matters affecting the company in its domestic and international markets. He succeeds Tom Mars who was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Wal-Mart US. In this newly created role, Mars will be responsible for key human resource functions for the Wal-Mart US division, including diversity, compensation, talent development, and employment practices and policies. He will also be responsible for the company's compliance department.
