KFC opening 300 restaurants to defy crisis in UK

KFC will invest EUR167million (USD224.4 million) in a project to open 300 outlets over the next 3-5 years. According to KFC, the company is enjoying strong growth through the recession as people are drawn to cheaper meals. Martin Shuker, KFC Chief Executive in the UK, said to believe that the chain was taking market share from rivals like McDonald’s; in addition to the fact that the entire quick service restaurant sector was growing. Reflecting the current profile of its sites, the new outlets are expected to be 38% owned by the chain and the rest franchised.
