Metro Group reportedly to exit markets, grow multi-channel
Metro Group is considering an exit from Bulgaria, Egypt, Japan and Kazakhstan, Lebensmittel Zeitung reports. The German group is believed to be selling in order to invest funds into its struggling home market.
The company is hoping to accelerate the pace of transformation in its domestic business. Further changes are planned among top management and its non-food product assortment will be streamlined.
Major emphasis will also be placed on fulfilment, with Metro Group creating a dedicated Fulfilment and Multi-channel department. David Martinez Fontano, formerly Customer Management, is to head up this team, as the company looks to grow its e-commerce and delivery offer as a growth driver.
