Circuit City announces reductions in staff
Bankrupt US-based consumer electronics retailer Circuit City has announced that it will eliminate as many as 1,903 positions. The job losses will be from its corporate headquarters as the retailer closes its doors for good. About 1,500 to 1,600 of those jobs are in the Richmond area, company spokesman Bill Cimino said. The retailer announced last week that it was liquidating its assets and shutting the company down. All of its 567 stores are to be closed by 31 March. www.planetretail.net
